New 3D simulation applications for the future
Electrical systems integrator Alewijnse and 3D simulation specialist Tree C Technology have joined forces to develop innovative digital twins for the maritime manufacturing industry.
Together, they now deliver new, future-proof 3D simulation applications that realistically simulate the operating environment of ship equipment and optimize every phase of a ship’s life cycle.
Revolutionizing the manufacturing industry
Simulations and digital twins are revolutionizing the manufacturing industry. The technology is there, and its development in the maritime domain is underway. Alewijnse and Tree C are leading the way by jointly proposing new 3D digital twin applications capable of simulating in a physically correct way specific mechanical equipment of ships in their working environment.
This brings a wide range of benefits, such as the ability to design and test systems more efficiently, optimize training in a realistic 3D environment, and offer the best remote service. The result is a dramatic improvement in system performance and substantial time and cost savings for customers. This way, shipbuilders, owners and crew can take advantage of the latest high-end systems and techniques.
The next step
By combining their expertise, Alewijnse and Tree C draw on their years of experience in simulation and digital twins. For example, Alewijnse has previously developed ECR consoles that allow advanced 2D simulation training for the manipulation of on-board tools.
Another recent innovation is the unique virtualization and visualization platform Alewijnse AlViVi, a control concept based on a central and redundant server system on which all process-related systems on board are virtualized and centrally integrated. These systems can also be viewed and controlled from all connected screens on a ship. This innovative platform also offers unique simulation capabilities for training and testing during the design phase of embedded automation systems.
Thanks to its unique collaboration with Tree C, Alewijnse goes even further. Tree C’s specialized software adds 3D realism to the simulation of interactions with the environment and the forces in play. This provides a realistic experience for operator trainees and makes the virtual environment suitable as an accurate test environment for new equipment and control systems.
Tree C and Alewijnse’s new simulation system consists of an instruction console to control the simulator, an operator console to control the ship’s equipment, a captain’s console to manage the thrusters, two screens for the view from the ship and two CCTVs for four simulation cameras. This creates unique opportunities for training, engineering, surveys and live monitoring service using visualization and augmented reality.
The maritime digital twins of the future
Both companies have already received several requests from the market, partly the result of promoting their successful cooperation on the Alewijnse stand during the Europort trade fair in November 2021. Both companies see many simulation opportunities for large-scale ship systems. and small shipping businesses and shipyards, and we look forward to continuing to build the maritime digital twins of tomorrow.
